York, PA -
Homeowners looking for a quick sale sometimes lower their asking price, often dropping the figure by thousands of dollars.
But, does that strategy always translate into a fast closing?
Well, that depends on the location.
In January, the median sale price for a home in the Red Lion Area School District was $128,000, an 18 percent drop from one year ago when the price was $156,000, according to data released today by the Realtors Association of York & Adams Counties.
However, the number of homes sold in that district climbed 53 percent from 19 sold in January 2012 to 29 sold last month.
Similar to Red Lion, the median sale price of home sold in January in the Dover Area School District fell 19 percent compared to last year. However, the number of homes sold tumbled 29 percent.
Overall, the number of homes sold in York County in January climbed 9 percent, from 220 in 2012 to 240 this year.
The county's median sale climbed a bit by 2 percent, inching up from $137,100 in 2012 to $139,900 in January.
